Details: Excelsior Group, mostly known as a residential developer, is venturing into the office sector with 10 West End, the first of two office buildings set for the Central Park West mixed-use zone of St. Louis Park and Golden Valley.

Central Park West is the 14-acre easternmost section of the West End redevelopment area, straddling the two suburbs. Two apartment buildings and a hotel are already being built.

Excelsior, which earlier built the nearby Flats at West End apartments, purchased the final two vacant parcels in the Central Park West zone last year.

This summer it received unanimous St. Louis Park City Council approvals for the 11-story 10 West End, with Ryan Cos. tapped as designer and builder. The plans call for a future next-door companion dubbed 20 West End. If the 315,00-square-foot initial phase is built as planned, it would become the first "Class A" office building constructed in the Interstate 394 real estate submarket since the late 1990s.

Ryan vice president Tony Barranco told city officials that a groundbreaking date depends on the signing of some anchor office tenants. He predicted that it would be in spring or early summer, citing "a great response" to marketing.
