Let's say you need some carpet. Doesn't have to be top quality carpet, but it should be new, neutral in color and large enough to cover a small to medium-sized room. Maybe it's a cold basement that needs warming up, a kids' bedroom, a spare bedroom or a workroom.
You'd be hard-pressed to find a lower price on new remnants than at Habitat for Humanity's Restore in Minneapolis (contact info below). Through Saturday, March 4, the home furnishings outlet is selling all of its carpet remnants for 40 cents per square foot. That puts most of the room sized remnants (12' by 10') at about $50.
The remnants are from a Minneapolis company that installs carpet for Home Depot in the Twin Cities area. The selection includes a variety of sizes, colors and styles but most are about 12' by 10' in beige or tan in cut pile. The carpet sells at Home Depot for 90 cents a square foot to $4 a square foot.
ReStore in Minneapolis opened in September. It pays to shop often for the occasional new items donated by local suppliers. Last month, the local Holtkotter dealer, donated discontinued but new lighting products. The made in Germany lights are carried at local showrooms such as Lappin Lighting and Creative Lighting. The contemporary styles are pricey, but ReStore is selling them at 90% off or $40 to $120, regularly $400 to $1,200.
