The 32 entrants in the expanded — a fourth class has been added — state softball tournament will be determined this week.

Among this week's noteworthy games, Park of Cottage Grove, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, has advanced to the Class 4A, Section 3 championship game. The Wolfpack, which is bidding for its first state tournament berth since 2004, will play either Eastview or Eagan on Thursday at Richfield Middle School.

The Wolfpack defeated Eastview, which won the Class 3A state championship last year, 4-3 on Saturday. Eastview and Eagan will play on Tuesday at Richfield Middle School.

In Class 4A, Section 2, Chanhassen, ranked No. 5, will play Eden Prairie in the winners' bracket final on Tuesday at Miller Park in Eden Prairie. The winner will advance to the championship game Thursday. The loser will move into the losers' bracket and play the winner of a game between Bloomington Jefferson and Burnsville.

In Class 4A, Section 4, Woodbury, which won the Class 3A consolation title last year, will play Roseville in the winners' bracket final at McKnight Fields in North St. Paul on Tuesday. North St. Paul, ranked No. 8 in Class 4A, remains alive and will play Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday in the losers' bracket.

Kasson-Mantorville, two-time defending Class 2A state champion, is ranked No. 9 in Class 3A. Kasson-Mantorville will play Winona, ranked No 3, in the Class 3A, Section 1 winners' bracket on Tuesday at Todd Park in Austin. The section championship is Thursday.

The state tournament is June 9-10 at Caswell Park in North Mankato.

Lacrosse playoffs start

The boys' and girls' lacrosse playoffs begin Tuesday.

Defending boys' state champion White Bear Lake will bid for its fourth consecutive state tournament berth when it plays host to Roseville in the Section 4 quarterfinals on Thursday.

Defending girls' state champion Eden Prairie will open its defense on Thursday against the winner of Tuesday's first-round Section 2 match between Orono and Shakopee.

Adapted softball

Defending CI Division state champion Chaska/Chanhassen/Prior Lake/Shakopee and defending PI Division state champion Anoka-Hennepin are back to defend their titles at the adapted softball state tournament, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Coon Rapids High School.

First-round matches will be held Friday, with semifinals and finals Saturday.
