A man once considered to be one of Minnesota's most prolific heroin dealers was sentenced on Thursday to 11 years in prison after being convicted of murder in the overdose death of a customer.
Jaime McClellan, 33, has been linked to at least two overdose deaths, including 24-year-old Alex Milun, who died in October 2015.
In court Wednesday, McClellan admitted selling the drugs that eventually killed Milun, according to the Hennepin County attorney's office. McClellan had also been charged in Anoka County with dealing heroin, but as part of a plea agreement those charges were dropped. Anoka County called McClellan "a major distributor of heroin" when he was charged.
McClellan told Milun's family during the sentencing Thursday that he was sorry for "the harm I've done" and said his life has been hard, that he had no loving parents and he was once shot in the head, according to the Hennepin County attorney's office.
"I apologize for their loss and everything they have to deal with," McClellan said. "… I live with this every day."
McClellan had already been convicted in federal court and is serving a 15-year sentence in a Kentucky prison for the overdose death of a Medina man.
McClellan's is the 13th murder conviction in Hennepin County for selling drugs that led to clients' deaths since 2007, according to the county attorney's office.
