DULUTH – Caitlin Reilly's goal, with 3 minutes, 36 seconds left, gave the No. 7 Gophers a 2-1 victory Saturday over Minnesota Duluth in WCHA women's hockey at Amsoil Arena.
Reilly, a senior forward and the sister of Wild defenseman Mike Reilly, also had two goals and one assist Friday as Minnesota (5-2-1, 4-1-1 WCHA) won the series opener 4-1.
"A really, really good win on the road," Gophers coach Brad Frost said.
In the second game of the series, No. 8 UMD (2-6, 0-4) took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute of the opening period on Ashton Bell's power-play goal.
The Gophers tied the score 1-1 on Sophie Skarzynski's rebound goal at 4:45 of the third period. It was her third goal of the season. Jackie Pieper and Patti Marshall had assists on the play.
Marshall also helped set up Reilly's goal. She took a shot from the point that went wide but banked off the end wall to a wide-open Reilly on the weak side. She one-timed the puck past UMD goalie Jessica Convery.
"Big goal there by Sophie, getting us a little bit of momentum," Frost said, "and then the back-breaker there with Reilly's off the back wall.
"[I'm] really proud of our team — tough place to play, tough place to win and to come away with six points to put in the bank is really huge for our team."
Gophers freshman goalie Alex Gulstene had a season-high 26 saves for Minnesota, including 11 in the opening period. Convery had 18 stops for UMD.
