At a glance: This is the Beavers’ seventh appearance in a super regional — a format that has existed since 1999. They are 10-4 all-time in super regional games, 10-2 at Goss Stadium. This is the first super regional for the Gophers, who are trying to qualify for the College World Series for the first time since 1977. Oregon State won national titles in 2006 and 2007 is 597-231 since 2005.

All-time series: Beavers lead 5-3.

About the No. 3 Beavers: Their lineup includes three position players taken in the top 37 picks of the MLB draft — 2B Nick Madrigal (fourth by the White Sox), OF Trevor Larnach (20th by the Twins) and SS Cadyn Grenier (37th by the Orioles). The Beavers have won five Pac-10 titles since 2005, finishing second to Stanford this year. Oregon State has advanced to the CWS five times since 2005. Madrigal has 32 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Grenier is hitting .328 with 44 RBI. Larnach has 17 HRs and 65 RBI. Heimlich (15-1, 2.42 ERA) was considered a first-round prospect in the MLB draft but went undrafted the past two years after it was revealed he was a registered sex offender.

About the No. 14 Gophers: They have quite the lineup as well, led by SS Terrin Vavra (.393, 10 HRs, 59 RBI), who was taken in the third round of the MLB draft by Colorado. LF Ben Mezzenga is hitting .378 and is 12-for-17 on stolen base attempts. 2B Luke Petterson (.328) has 27 RBI and is 13-for-17 on stolen bases. 1B Cole McDevitt has nine homers and 46 RBI. Like Oregon State, the Gophers have a strong starting 1-2 punch with Reggie Meyer (8-3, 2.62) and freshman Patrick Frederickson (9-0, 1.76). Closer Max Meyer has a 1.34 ERA, and his 16 saves are tied for the most in school history. The Gophers’ 44 victories are the third-most in school history.
