Gophers senior defenseman Jake Bischoff agreed to a two-year, entry level contract with the New York Islanders, the team announced.

The 22-year-old from Grand Rapids had five goals and 27 assists in 38 games this season, and won the Big Ten defensive player of the year award.

He was drafted by the Islanders in 2012 in the seventh round (185th overall).

In 139 games for the Gophers, Bischoff had 17 goals and 51 assists.
