A 22-year-old Iowa man died in a semitrailer truck-car crash near Rochester Friday evening.

The semi was heading north on Hwy. 52 in Minneola Township, in Goodhue County, shortly before 7 p.m. At the same time, a Chevy Impala at a stop sign at Hwy. 57 northbound failed to yield at the median and pulled out in front of the semi, according to the State Patrol.

The car's only passenger, Cody William Lloyd Squier, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died at the scene. The driver, Jacob Paul Nelson, 22, also of St. Ansgar, was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary's Campus with noncritical injuries. Both men were wearing seat belts.

The semi driver was identified as Christopher John Small, 54, of Coon Rapids. He was not hurt.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, the patrol said.
