After decades of seeing nothing but a black canvas of charcoal gray, Duluth pastor James Kelm received a bionic eye implant that will allow him to identify shapes and contrast objects in front of him. On Friday, two weeks after the bionic implant surgery, the implant was activated at the U of M Medical Center. This is the second such implant in Minnesota and one of only about 100 so far in the U.S. to treat a form of blindness known as retinitis pigmentosa.
