The funeral for slain Fargo, N.D., police officer Jason Moszer will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at Scheels Arena in Fargo, the city's Police Department announced Saturday.

The arena, at 5225 31st Av. S., can seat 5,000 to 6,000 people, the department said in a news release. Further details about the service will be released in the coming days, it said.

Moszer, 33, a six-year veteran of the Fargo force, was fatally shot Thursday while responding to a domestic dispute in north Fargo. He was the city's first police officer to be killed on duty in 134 years, authorities said.

Hours after he was shot, officers found the man believed to have shot him, Marcus C. Schumacher, 49, dead in his home. Police are looking into whether Schumacher — who exchanged gunfire with a SWAT officer after Moszer was wounded — was killed by police bullets or his own.

Schumacher had a criminal history that includes a conviction for negligent homicide for the October 1988 shooting of 17-year-old Maynard Clauthier. Schumacher was sentenced in 1991 to five years in prison.

About 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Schumacher's son called 911 to report that his father had shot at his mother. The son and his mother fled unharmed. Moszer was among the officers who initially responded to the scene. The suspect shot him as he stood near the police perimeter, police said.

After an armored police vehicle was used to remove the mortally wounded Moszer from the scene, police tried to communicate with Schumacher over the next several hours before he was found dead.
