Two things are in danger of being lost in the shuffle of a Vikings season that will ultimately be dominated by talk of close losses, QB switches and stadium debates. One is the accelerated brilliance of Adrian Peterson. The other, which we'd like to focus on for just a minute here, is the assault on QBs and the NFL record book by a seemingly reborn Jared Allen. At the midpoint of the Vikings' season, Allen has 12.5 sacks. Basic math tells us he's on pace for 25, which would break the all-time record of 22.5 set by Michael Strahan (and aided by Brett Favre).

Allen has eight games left. Three of them are rematch games against the Bears, Lions and Packers -- against whom he racked up a combined six sacks in the first meetings this season. Five of his remaining eight games are against teams that are among the top-12 most-sacked in the NFL: Atlanta, Washington, New Orleans, Chicago and Denver. There are four home games and four road games remaining for Allen and the Vikings.

Sacks tend to come in bunches; Allen will need 10 in 8 games to tie Strahan's record. Do you think he'll do it?
