Trent Klatt isn't leaving the Grand Rapids boys' hockey team after all.

Klatt confirmed via text message Friday that he is staying on as coach, less than a week after he had indicated he would give up the job after leading the Thunderhawks to third place in the recent Class 2A state tournament.

A statement on the Independent School District 318 website said Klatt, an NHL player for 14 seasons before retiring in 2005, reconsidered his resignation "after speaking with students and hearing from the community.''

Klatt previously had expressed concerns about having time to coach while also working as a scout for the New York Islanders.
