Five free agents who could interest the Twins
(Keep in mind that players who turned down a $17.4 million qualifying offer from their former club would cost a draft pick to sign — and affect the Twins' interest.)
Alex Cobb, righthanded starter: Went 12-10, 3.66 in first full season following recovery from Tommy John surgery. Strikeout rate down slightly from pre-surgery form. Just turned 30, so there could be a little upside left. Has been projected to land with the Twins on other sites.
Lance Lynn, righthanded starter: Lynn also returned from Tommy John surgery to go 11-8 and 3.43. His 3.1 WAR would have been fifth best on the Twins, and second among starters, making him a solid third wheel with Ervin Santana and Jose Berrios.
Wade Davis, righthanded reliever: The past two postseasons haven't been kind to Davis. Still, he has been named to the past three All-Star teams, struck out 12.7 batters per nine innings and the Twins need a late inning guy like they need air to breathe.
Greg Holland, righthanded reliever: Holland missed 2016 because of Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery but posted an NL-high 41 saves this season in Colorado. His control slipped some, but he definitely can help with the final three to six outs of a game.
Bryan Shaw, righthanded reliever: Posted a 3.52 ERA. But his Fielding-Independent Pitching of 2.96 shows just how effective he was. He gave up only five home runs and his walk rate dropped from 3.8 to 2.6. Perhaps the Twins could use him in the ninth inning.
Twins free agents: Matt Belisle, righthanded reliever; Bartolo Colon, righthanded starter; Dillon Gee, righthanded reliever; Glen Perkins, lefthanded reliever; Hector Santiago, lefthanded starter.
