A man who just welcomed into the world his third child was identified by family as the person who was shot dead this week on a busy north Minneapolis thoroughfare as he did maintenance work on a food truck.

David R. Ryman, 26, of Mounds View, was shot about 6 p.m. Monday in the 4700 block of Lyndale Avenue N., his sister said Tuesday.

"David, a father of 3 kids, [gunned] down at the age of 26," Samantha Ryman explained on a GoFundMe page she initiated.

Police have announced no arrests in connection with the shooting, which occurred in a block with a Dairy Queen, other casual food outlets, visiting food trucks and some light industry. Ryman was shot in the neck and chest, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.

Ryman's third child was born in late September, family said.

Nikkole Johnson, a food truck employee, said she was standing "within about a foot" of Ryman when he was shot. She said Ryman was a mechanic in the area tending to various vehicles.

Police Sgt. Catherine Michal said Wednesday the victim "was working on a food truck and some type of argument occurred" leading up to the shooting. Emergency responders declared Ryman dead at the scene.
