NEW YORK — A 7-for-24 stretch isn't exactly a hot streak, but Eduardo Escobar's .293 road trip seems almost scorching compared to his teammates.
Escobar went 3-for-3 with a walk on Tuesday, doubling twice and driving in a run. On a road trip in which the Twins have scored more than one run only twice in 81 innings, that's a standout performance.
"We've seen it for a few years now — when he gets opportunities, he can get hot," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "He hasn't had a lot of at-bats righthanded, so I was pleased he was able to get some good swings off [Yankees lefty CC] Sabathia last night. … He'll get flipped around tonight, but hopefully he can keep it going."
Escobar and the Twins face Sonny Gray tonight, a righthander who hasn't beaten Minnesota since 2013. The Twins have beaten Gray three straight games, including a 9-1 rout against the A's last May. Gray is off to a rough start this season, having allowed 15 runs in 16 1/3 innings.
The Twins will start Lance Lynn, who has never pitched in Yankee Stadium. In fact, Lynn has faced the Yankees only once, back in 2014 in St. Louis, and it was memorable: It's the only complete-game shutout of his career.
