DFL gubernatorial candidate Mark Dayton, who is leading in the three-way DFL primary race in most polls, is asking for his challengers to present their solution for the state's estimated $6 billion budget shortfall.

Dayton will hold a news conference 10:30 a.m. Thursday, to ask the other DFL, Republican, and Independence Party candidates for governor: "What's your plan?"

Dayton has called for solving most of the problem by raising taxes on the state's highest earners.

By contrast, Dayton will say today that the other candidates have offered "only pablum and platitudes," according to a news release.

Dayton is expected to ask the other candidates for details about whether they will raise taxes and precisely where they will cut spending.
