In Sunday's Star Tribune business section, we detail the top paydays of Minnesota public-company CEOs, starting with the $61 million total package last year for Ameriprise Financial CEO Jim Cracchiolo.
Cracchiolo, a former American Express executive who runs Ameriprise from New York, has been among the best paid financial service brass in the country for years at a planning-and-investment outfit that has run from about $25 per share amid the Great Recession of 2008-09 to $139 per share last week.
Executives not included in Sunday's comprehensive roundup by colleague Patrick Kennedy include several folks who run not-for-profit businesses that represent local commerce. Their pay is based on most recent IRS and Minnesota attorney general filings.
They include:
• CEO Charlie Weaver of the Minnesota Business Partnership, $716,288;
• Michael Langley, retiring CEO of Greater MSP, the business-recruitment agency; $530,940;
• President Doug Loon of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, $466,119;
• CEO Melvin Tennant of Meet Minneapolis, the convention and visitors bureau, $287,724;
• CEO Steve Cramer of the Minneapolis Downtown Council, $227,279;
• Former CEO Matt Kramer of the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce, who has left for an executive job at the University of Minnesota, $269,365;
• Three people who ran the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce: the late Todd Klingel; interim President John Stanoch and new President Jonathan Weinhagen were paid a combined $305,044 to oversee Minnesota's largest local chamber in 2016, the last year for which the chamber submitted a financial report.
