Dance artist probes Brazil's history of slavery

Brazilian-American choreographer Marciano Silva dos Santos brings an effervescent voice to the Minnesota scene, creating works with emotional range and depth as well as profound joy. And he's a marvel to watch as a performer, matching skill with a glowing stage presence. For Contempo Physical Dance's latest concert, dos Santos shows off his choreography and dance chops with a new solo titled "Lágrima Fora do Lugar (Tear Out of Place)." The piece is about Brazil's settlements of escaped slaves (known as quilombo). Also on the bill is the 2014 piece "SenZalma," a narrative journey based on a slave ship and the brutal journey between freedom and slavery. (7:30 p.m. Fri. & Sat., Cowles Center, 528 Hennepin Av.
