A man residing in a St. Louis Park assisted living center has been charged with repeatedly molesting a female resident in a wheelchair, and police are investigating similar complaints by other residents and a staff member.

Tewodros Michael, 50, was charged in Hennepin County District Court with fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct, a gross misdemeanor. Michael remains jailed in lieu of $6,000 bail.

Michael, who had been receiving treatment for health problems at Golden Living Center, told staff members that he molested the fellow resident because "he was a man and needed his needs met too," the charging document read.

Police were called to the facility on Thursday to investigate allegations that Michael had touched at least four other women — one of them a staff member — at the facility. In one instance, he was in a woman's room with his pants down, according to a police report.

Officers interviewed one of the women, who suffered a stroke and uses a wheelchair. She told police that Michael touched her sexually under and over her clothing, even though she objected and tried to move away during one encounter in a hallway, the criminal complaint read.

Michael's attorney declined to comment Tuesday about the claims against her client.
