Burt Ewing Jr. murdered his sister in 1998. After a judge found him not guilty due to mental illness, he was committed to the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter. 14 years later, he stabbed his mother while on a "day pass" from the hospital. He was found not guilty for attempted murder and will remain at the security hospital indefinitely.
