Cub Foods customers should check their accounts if they made a shopping trip on Friday.

Some Cub Foods customers faced payment processing problems — including double charges — due to a computer system glitch at NCR Corp., which also affected retailers nationwide.

Cub, the largest Twin Cities supermarket chain, contracts with Georgia-based NCR to process credit card transactions. On Friday, a "technical issue" with NCR's software caused a disruption in its payment systems nationwide, Cub Foods parent company Supervalu said in a statement.

"Cub is working closely with NCR to resolve any mistaken charges that may be affecting our customers," Supervalu said. The company declined to comment further, including on how many of its customers got stung by the glitch.

The NCR software bug lasted for a few hours on Friday and included slow payment processing, declined payments and the posting of two payments instead of one on a customer's account, said Jeff Dudash, an NCR spokesman.

The glitch affected several retailers using a particular NCR software system, including grocery chains Aldi and Schnucks, he said. Aldi is a nationwide retailer and its stores in the Twin Cities were affected, Dudash said. Schnucks is a large supermarket chain in the St. Louis area.

NCR is working with its customers to rectify the issue, which wasn't caused by a computer security breach, he said: "The system remained secure throughout the process."
