Toward the end of Bon Iver's set under drizzly skies in Eau Claire, Wis., word went out via social media that the album will be out Sept. 30 and is titled "22, Million." Fans who weren't at the festival at least got to hear two of the new numerically themed songs, "22 (Over S∞∞n)" and "10 d E A T h b R E a s T, which were posted on streaming services as well as YouTube.
See both of the YouTube lyric videos below, as well as all the song titles. Some critics are going to hate this album just for its punctuation/subscript requirements. It'll be the third full-length release by Vernon's main musical vehicle, the last of which was 2011's Grammy-winning "Bon Iver, Bon Iver." Here's what the cover looks like, done by artist Eric Timothy Carlson.
Pre-orders of the album with various bonus options are now on sale via Bon Iver's label, Jagjaguwar. A 12-inch single with extended mixes of the two newly posted songs – the album's opening pair -- also went on sale after the set at the Eaux Claires festival, which is Vernon's baby. The festival continues today with performances by Erykah Badu, Beach House, Mavis Staples, Lucius, Jenny Lewis and the all-star Day of the Dead tribute to the Grateful Dead.
