Bloomington teachers reached an agreement with the Bloomington School District following a daylong mediation session on Thursday.

Negotiations were drawn out to September, making Bloomington Public Schools the last in the Twin Cities area to settle their labor contract, according to the Bloomington Federation of Teachers. The district's contract with the Bloomington Federation of Teachers expired on June 30, 2015.

Prolonged negotiations led to a contentious school board meeting at the district on Sept. 12. More than 100 teachers packed into the meeting and some had to sit out in an overflow area.

Students at Jefferson High School in Bloomington wore black in solidarity with their teachers on Monday.

The Bloomington Federation of Teachers will vote on the tentative two-year agreement within the next two weeks. Following the vote, the group will release details on the contract for the district's more than 850 teachers.
