Clipped By Slush Later Today - Strong Mild/Pacific Signal Lingers
Will we smacked around by a volley of arctic fronts later this month and February? Yes, in all probability. At some point the other shoe (boot) will drop and we'll be huddling below zero for a few hours or even a few days. As intense as the last couple of winters? Hard to say but I'm starting to doubt it. Oscillations are keeping our wind flow persistently from the Pacific vs. the Arctic. We'll get pinged by polar air, but the default position for much of January may be a wind flow from Seattle vs. the Yukon. Not a slam dunk yet, but leaning in that direction. Stay tuned...

Mild Bias Next 7 Days - Colder Correction Likely by Mid-January
One day at a time, right? Considering we could be subzero and butt-deep in snow, I have no problems with 30s (above zero). In fact this feels like a bad vacation. Today will feel nice and Friday's clipper may produce a slushy coating at MSP; more south/west of the Twin Cities. Temperatures run milder into late next week before an inevitable push of colder air finally overpowers this pleasant, Pacific breeze.

Jan. 1, 1889: What does a managing editor do?
More than a century ago, the managing editor at a "great morning paper like the Tribune" had a great many responsibilities. He spent a few hours each day just opening mail, dictating letters, fending off job applicants and pacifying "cranks," all without the aid of an iPad. The Tribune explains:

New Year's Day Thaw - Mild Bias Lingers Into mid-January
A Pacific breeze kicks in again today and Thursday with a relatively mild start to 2020 (temperatures a good 15F or more above average). And no, we shouldn't get complacent or cocky. At some point Siberia will lob a polar grenade in our direction - that could very well happen in late January or even early February. The pattern isn't ripe for snow, ice or rain anytime soon either. Fairly quiet weather for early January. Hey, the days are getting longer! We've picked up over 3 minutes of daylight since December 21, if anyone asks. Which I seriously doubt...
