How do you get a crowd to sound anything but deadly silent? Have a Cinderella story outta nowhere start a cheer.
The Sunday atmosphere at the first tee of the Ryder Cup was festive anyway. Miracle on Ice captain Mike Eruzione was in his spot along the VIP rail. So was Michael Jordan.
Then Bill Murray, a known golf fan and something of a golf icon as Carl Spackler in Caddyshack, showed up almost unnoticed and took his spot at the top of the bleachers.
Murray waited for a lull in the crowd. After fans chanted for Bubba Watson, Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed, Murray found his window.
"I'm going to get this whole place to start screaming," he said.
Then, as more and more people noticed just who it was in the baggy golf shirt and red, white and blue bucket hat, he got his wish.
"Alright here we go: 1, 2, 3 ... AMERICA!"
After a few more tries, Murray got his wish and the entire stadium followed his lead.
Moments later Murray watched Reed and Rory McIlroy tee off to start the final session. Then he was back down the steps just as nonchalantly as he arrived. No entourage. No cameras.

"Nah - I'm famished," he said. "I think it's time for a sandwich. They get anything around here?"
