The annual benefit for the Sax-Zim bog will be Sunday, Jan. 21, at Springbrook Nature Center in Fridley. The bog is one of the best and most important birding areas in the state, located 50 miles north of Duluth.

The 2018 Boreal Wings Gala raises money for the non-profit Friends of Sax-Zim Bog. That group continues to purchase land in the bog to preserve it for future generations of birds and birders.

Activities will run from 2 to 4:30 p.m., and will include a silent auction of bird-related items, bird-themed appetizers, Sax-Zim Bog merchandise, an update on progress with bog programs, and videos from the bog.

Buy tickets at the Friends web site (http://saxzim.org/signature-events/). Advance tickets ares $35 per person, children $17, younger kids free. Tickets at the door will be $40.

Al Batt, Minnesota writer, speaker, storyteller, and humorist, will be guest speaker at 3:30.

Come early to hike/snowshoe/ski the nature center's many trails, and tour the new nature center and its and interactive exhibits.

Appetizers will be available at 2 p.m., when the silent auction begins.

At 2:30 there will be an update on Friends of Sax-Zim Bog projects, and bog videos.

The program Includes soup/bread dinner, silent auction, and a one-year membership.
