The intersection where two Mounds View High School students were killed in a car crash last week will be closed for about 30 minutes Monday afternoon to provide a safe place for people who wish to leave memorials.

Police will escort buses and vehicles from Mounds View High School to the crash site at Hwy. 10 and County Road 96. The caravan will leave the school at 2:20 p.m., according to a post on the school district's webpage and a confirmation from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Deputies from the sheriff's office will block the intersection until about 2:50 p.m. when buses will return to the school, the notice on the school's webpage said.

"For everyone's safety, this opportunity is the recommended way to leave memorials near the site," the school district said.

Students Bridget Giere and Stephanie Carlson were killed in a two-vehicle crash just after 7 a.m. Thursday as they drove to school. The girls were in a vehicle heading west on County Road 96 and about to turn left onto Old Hwy. 10 when they collided with a vehicle heading east on County 96, authorities said.

A third student, Samantha Redden, was injured and remains in the hospital in stable condition, the school district said.
