At least two people were hurt Saturday morning when shots were fired outside a Foot Locker at a Brooklyn Center shopping center during a highly anticipated shoe sale.
The gunfire erupted outside the store at 1580 Shingle Creek Pkwy. just before 10 a.m., according to Brooklyn Center police. Two people suffering gunshot wounds were hospitalized with noncritical injuries, said Cmdr. Garett Flesland. No arrests had been made as of 5 p.m. Saturday, but officials said they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to public safety.
Saturday marked the release of NBA legend Michael Jordan's line of sneakers, Air Jordans. It remains unclear whether the altercation at Foot Locker was among customers.
According to scanner reports, two suspects were being sought Saturday in a search that included a State Patrol helicopter.
Around the same time Saturday morning, police in Madison, Wis., were called to a Finish Line Footwear store on a report of a disturbance. Officers were requested as backup by mall security after dozens of people waiting in line for Air Jordans began pushing and shoving one another to reach the front, according to the incident report.
Police reported that Finish Line had only 10 pairs of shoes for sale, which enraged the crowd of more than 60 people.
