The scene: People looking as small as ants, beneath a rainbow made of mist, follow a trail to cliffs overlooking the Gullfoss waterfall. The waterfall is on the Golden Circle, a 190-mile driving route that loops from Reykjavik through the uplands of Iceland and is dotted with scenic wonders. "I had taken many pictures when we first arrived and on the hike down to the viewing point. Just as we were about to leave, I turned around for one final glimpse of the spectacular falls and noted that the rainbow now completely spanned the falls," Jaeger wrote in an e-mail.
The trip: Jaeger took her parents, ages 79 and 81, to Iceland in August. She reports that during a five-day drive along the Golden Circle, the trio "were able to see many sights within a short walk of the car." She was fascinated by the history of the country, as well as the geology that produces both volcanoes and glaciers, which she called "awe-inspiring."
Equipment: Jaeger used a Canon Rebel T7i outfitted with a wide-angle lens, which allowed her to capture the entire expanse of the rainbow.
