Coon Rapids police are investigating a high school girl's report that a young man asked her to get into his van Thursday morning.

According to information from the school district, the girl was walking to Coon Rapids High School when the man pulled up and invited her -- twice -- to enter the van.

The girl ignored the man's advances and safely reached her school, where she reported the incident. The school immediately contacted police. The girl described the man's demeanor as friendly, not threatening, and the incident is not being classified as an attempted abduction, said Coon Rapids Police Chief Brad Wise.

Still, police are seeking the driver of the van.

"We take it seriously," Wise said. "We are looking for the guy for the sake of finding out what his intention was."

The girl offered a description of a dark purple minivan with windows, said Coon Rapids Police Capt. John Hattstrom. The man she described was white, about 21 years old, about 175 pounds, with short, straight, unstyled blond hair, no facial hair or glasses or hat. He was wearing a black jacket, Hattstrom said.

People with knowledge of the incident or with safety concerns should call the Coon Rapids Police Department at 763-767-6481.
