Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 52-year-old man last week near E. Lake Street in south Minneapolis, police said.

The three are men ages 18, 21 and 50, according to police spokesman John Elder. They remain in the Hennepin County jail pending murder charges, Elder said.

Elder declined to reveal what led to the men's arrests, nor did he explain any new details about the killing of James Jerome Salter about 4:45 a.m. Thursday on 5th Avenue S., just south of Lake Street.

Salter, of Minneapolis, was found in the street with a gunshot wound. Medical personnel declared him dead at the scene.

The 21-year-old is from St. Paul, and the 50-year-old is from Minneapolis. The jail logs lists no address for the 18-year-old.

The Star Tribune generally does not identify suspects before they are charged.
