An SUV driver ran into an Amish buggy from behind late at night in western Wisconsin, sending one of the three injured occupants to a Twin Cities hospital with critical injuries, authorities said.

The collision occurred about 12:30 a.m. Monday on Hwy. 128 at Hwy. 12 near Wilson in St. Croix County, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The SUV was heading north on Hwy. 128 west of Wilson and "struck the horse-drawn buggy from behind," a statement from the patrol read.

An 18-year-old woman was thrown from the buggy, rendered unconscious and taken by air ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with life-threatening injuries, the patrol said.

Suffering less critical injuries were a 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man who was driving the buggy.

All three in the buggy are from Wilson. The patrol has yet to disclose their identities.

The SUV's driver, a 33-year-old woman from nearby Glenwood City, was expected to survive her injuries.
