The State Patrol is investigating Minnesota's second fatal pedestrian accident in two days.

A 98-year-old man was struck and killed by a dump truck just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of the hospital in St. James, Minn., in Watonwan County.

The man was walking in front of the truck as it moved forward after unloading asphalt in the Mayo Clinic Health System lot, the patrol said.

The victim's name has not been released. The truck driver, a 49-year-old man from Good Thunder, Minn., was uninjured.

Meanwhile, a woman fatally struck by a vehicle in Gilbert, Minn., Wednesday evening has been identified as Florence J. Mannelin, 85, of nearby Makinen.

She was crossing the road in the 100 block of Broadway Avenue at 5:46 p.m. when she was hit, the patrol said. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The vehicle didn't stop after hitting her, continuing north on Broadway, the patrol said. Its make and model are not known. An investigation continues.
